As a service to our customers and industry, we have created this estimate guide. It is rather crude and in no way exact. However, if you are looking for ballpark numbers (in terms of dollars and square footage), this should give you a better handle on what to expect and what to expect from any of our comparable competitors. And yes, we already have plans in the works for a more sophisticated system. But that is next year.

Basic Installation - Estimator |
|
The following data has been gathered over the last three years from projects of comparable sizes and levels of “bells and whistles”. We chose data from basic installations where demolition was minimal or not required – “blank sheet” backyards. The average sizes of the yards were 25 feet deep by 65 feet wide (or 1,625 square feet). With all of the elements figured in (concrete, plants, lawn, et cetera) we've come up with $6.85 per square foot. So…
| Area of an average backyard |
1,625 |
| Times the cost per square foot |
$6.85 |
| Equals the average cost of the installation |
$11,131.25 |
Using the same base formula, we upgraded some of the features (bells and whistles) to include an average water feature, concrete mowing strips, and various other landscape “perks”.
| Area of an average backyard |
1,625 |
| Times the cost per square foot |
$10.34 |
| Equals the average cost of the installation |
$16,802.50 |
The following base costs are “all inclusive” with respect to their related elements.
For example, the sod (grass) includes the irrigation system, topsoil, and fertilizer. All other elements listed will be listed similarly.
Please note that these figures are given “site unseen”. Tree roots, concrete, hillsides, and valued existing landscapes all prove to be formidable obstacles and can increase installation costs – sometimes minimally, sometimes significantly.
| Item |
Cost as Indicated |
| Sod |
$2.35 per square foot
(includes topsoil, irrigation, & fertilizer) |
Concrete
(broom finish gray) |
$7.05 per square foot
(includes 3/8” dia rebar 18” O.C.) |
Pondless Water Feature
(6 x 8) |
$2,809.23 starting price

Redwood 6’-0” Fencing
(D.E.) |
$25.84 per linear foot |
| Planter Beds |
$4.87 per square foot
(includes trees, shrubs, fabric, and bark) |
How do you use these numbers? It’s easy. Lets say you want a concrete patio that is 16 feet wide by 20 feet long. 16 times 20 equals 320 square feet (16 x 20 = 320 sq ft). 320 square feet times the cost of $7.05 per square foot equals $2,256.00 dollars (320 x 7.05 = 2,256).
It’s really that easy. Don’t over think it.
